With over 37, 400 signatures and counting, New York writer Sabrina Lamb has succeeded in getting Oxygen to drop their heinous show proposal “All My Babies’ Mamas.” The cancelled show would have followed Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo and his eleven children with their ten mothers.

The Parents Television Council said the show was “grotesquely irresponsible and exploitative.” When Lamb first saw a promotion for the program, her “blood curdled.” She was especially concerned with the embarrassment the children would face for entertainment’s sake. (Not to mention the exploitation of black familial stereotypes.) Groups like Rap Rehab, Industry Ears, and Black Men in America came together to support Lamb’s petition, and the online community made their voices heard onChange.org. On the petition’s site, under a heading of “Victory,” it reads, “Please never forget the power that you have to lobby to create value in the world.” Amen to that!
